This is a song I wrote a few months back based on Lamentations 3:21-23, which is one of my favorite passages of Scripture. The ESV reads,

But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

Verse 22 actually gets slightly misunderstood in most English translations. It should say something more like, ‘Because of the steadfast love (hesed) of  the LORD we are not destroyed…’ We should be destroyed. We should be overwhelmed by God’s justice. But because of God’s faithful covenantal love for His people, we are instead purchased by the blood of His only Son. We are saved from God’s wrath, because Jesus who knew no sin became sin for us.

This is what caused the Apostle Paul to marvel at the wondrous grace of God. Unlike so many people in our day who wonder why God does not save more people, or maybe save a particular person, Paul sees that the fact that God saves anyone, in spite of our rebellion as something to inspire awe and lead to worship!
